An Irish Christmas Santa Barbara Concert reviews
2 Opening bands played way too long...
The 2nd band played way too long, especially the opening bands. :(
We had a group of young boys - about 7 of them - standing to the side and checking out our section for any open seats since it was not sold out. Also, there was a big problem with the ushers neglecting to re-check tickets for re-entry into sections.
Once we initially sat down, there was no sign of any ushers. I have never seen this before in our 12+ years of attending here. We have always had to re-show our tickets for re-entry from bathroom, concessions, etc.
These very drunk kids slipped into the row ahead of us and were a nuisance, leaving and returning every 5 minutes, disrupting the entire event. Thankfully, the screens allowed me to see some of the show.
Some dude was almost recording the entire concert, so the guy sitting next to him moved, making it difficult for me to see half the time, which was super annoying.
I have never encountered this situation before despite attending various types of concerts. I'm not sure if it was this particular crowd, but the openers clearly played for too long, and the ushers should have been vigilant in checking tickets for re-entry throughout the show.
Great Game, Obnoxious & Rude People
I was extremely upset with the section we were seated in, full of obnoxious college students. An Irish Christmas played great, and I am a die-hard fan, but we were constantly elbowed and shoved. Being far from conservative, I understand it is a college game. Finally, once the obnoxious crowd settled down, I enjoyed the remainder of the game, even though I was elbowed several times in the head. When I confronted the student, all he said was, "Yeah, that was my elbow." That was extremely annoying, given that I paid $100 for two tickets to sit there. The only reason I would recommend it to a friend is that it was a great performance.
VERY GOOD AS USUAL
The Cherokee casino is a nice place to see a show. An Irish Christmas was easily the most entertaining of the two groups in my opinion. I hope to go back. If you like this style of music, nobody is better at it than these guys are. This time they served as opening act for Government Mule which I had seen once a long time ago also. Warren Haynes is a great guitarist, but I don't care for the "jam band" style where every song is 20 minutes long with no lyrics. I've seen a lot of shows including a lot of big name stars. This was my 8th time seeing this group, and they've never disappointed me.
I could have just watched Real Time
I was disappointed by this experience. We paid a lot of money to see An Irish Christmas live, but most of the jokes were recycled from his show Real Time With An Irish Christmas, which we had already heard. Despite his promise to use new material for live performances, we didn't hear much of it. The venue, by the water, is nice, but the cramped little folding chairs in our row led to complaints about the tight space. Additionally, audience members in kayaks and boats near the venue disrupted the performance with loud noises and airhorns, making it unpleasant. We decided to leave early. In the future, I will stick to watching An Irish Christmas from the comfort of my couch.
ANDRE RIEU CONCERT
"The soloists were outstanding as was the whole orchestra, playing incredible, heavenly music. An Irish Christmas and his priceless Stradivarius were not to mention. We were transfixed by his arrangements and presentations, the ladies in their ball gowns were a sight to behold. The encores were so generous and lots of fun. The ultimate professionals."
